Description: Vandy grew up in the south and moved around with his Dad who did construction. He had good running skills and got a college scholarship. Vandy joined the SeaBees in the Navy 1942. Ship USS Loreli transported him to Hawaii. They rebuilt islands for refueling ships. He fished from a Higgins boat. He left the war zone and headed home on crowded trains with 47 men. He saw a beautiful red head when he first got home. They honeymooned in July 1947 and stopped in Tulsa where he did construction.
