The American takes us through the life of Daniel Boorstin, including his time in Tulsa during the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre. Among the figures to emerge from that tragic event are B.C. Franklin (father of John Hope Franklin) and Daniel’s father, lawyer Samuel Boorstin, who represented African American victims.
Daniel Boorstin graduated from Central High School at the age of 15 and proceeded to earn degrees from Harvard and Yale. He won the 1974 Pulitzer Price in history for his book, The Americans: The Democratic Experience. He was the Librarian of Congress from 1975-1987 and then became the Director of the Smithsonian’s National Museum of History and Technology.
Jon Boorstin’s new book is a unique look at the lives of his father and grandfather. The American: The Hidden History of Daniel J. Boorstin and His Twentieth Century, is a blending of biography, Tulsa history, memoir and historical investigation.
Books will be available for purchase and signing.
