Job Title: Chief Executive Officer (CEO)

Job Overview:
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Tulsa Historical Society & Museum is responsible for the overall leadership, strategic direction, and effective operation of the museum. The CEO will work closely with the Board of Directors to advance the museum’s mission, enhance its financial sustainability, and elevate its impact in our community and beyond.
Key Responsibilities:
The CEO of the Tulsa Historical Society & Museum, will play a pivotal role in leading, developing, and managing the museum’s operations, programs, and community engagement efforts. We are looking for a dynamic and mission-driven leader who can inspire and collaborate with staff, donors, board members, and the broader community to advance our shared vision.
- Plans, implements, manages and evaluates the business and daily operations of the museum.
- Advises and supports the Board of Directors
- Assists in developing annual organizational goals and objectives.
- Coordinates efforts in matters of short- and long-range planning, publicity, endowments, programs, fundraising, grants, and corporate sponsorships.
- Oversees and evaluates all programs to ensure that objectives are met. Leads staff and volunteers in a coordinated effort to achieve the museum’s mission.
- Prepares administrative policies and procedures for review and approval by the Board.
- Recruits, hires, orients, trains, supervises and evaluates staff.
- Researches and prepares the annual operating budget for review and approval, plus supplemental budget updates and modifications as needed.
- Oversees all areas of facility management, including maintenance, insurance, and capital improvements.
- Serves as principal spokesperson for the museum.
Other related duties may be assigned as needed, by Board and/or Executive Committee.
Leadership and Strategy: Provide visionary leadership and guidance to the organization, fostering a culture of excellence, innovation, and collaboration. Develop and implement a long-term strategic plan to fulfill the museum’s mission and vision.
Financial Management: Oversee the budgeting process and ensure prudent financial management and fiscal responsibility. Seek and secure diverse revenue streams, including grants, donations, and earned income, to support the museum’s sustainability and growth.
Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with donors, patrons, members, and the local community. Collaborate with the Board to strengthen fundraising efforts and promote philanthropic support.
Program and Exhibition Development: Oversee the development and execution of high-quality exhibitions, educational programs, and events that align with the museum’s mission and engage a diverse audience. Foster collaboration with artists, curators, educators, and other cultural institutions.
Operational Excellence: Ensure efficient and effective day-to-day operations of the museum, including the management of staff, volunteers, and resources. Implement and maintain best practices in collections care, visitor services, and facility management.
Marketing and Public Relations: Promote the museum’s brand, exhibitions, and programs through effective marketing and public relations strategies. Utilize digital and social media platforms to enhance the museum’s online presence.
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion: Foster a diverse and inclusive environment within the museum, promoting equity and accessibility for all visitors and stakeholders.
Advocacy and Partnerships: Advocate for the museum at the local, state, and national levels, building partnerships and alliances that support the museum’s goals.
Qualifications:
A bachelor’s or master’s degree in a relevant field, such as arts administration, museum studies, business, or nonprofit management.
Proven leadership experience, ideally in a senior management role within a cultural or nonprofit organization.
A deep commitment to the mission and values of Tulsa Historical Society & Museum.
Strong financial acumen and a track record of successful fundraising and revenue generation.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Knowledge of current trends in the arts and museum sector.
Familiarity with best practices in collections management, conservation, and exhibition development.
Salary: $95,000 – $115,000 DOE
Benefits: Fully covered health insurance, short/long term disability, matching IRA plan, generous PTO package
Schedule: M-F 8:30 – 4:30 with occasional evenings. Staff is required to work one Saturday every five weeks, with associated comp time.
