March and Rally

Free and open to the public! Help us commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the Passage of the 19th Amendment (Women’s Right to Vote). Join us at 11:00 am for Living History performances of suffragist leaders (approximately 45 min.), immediately followed by a March and Rally. Afterwards, visit the new exhibit Votes for Women: Striking a Four-Letter Word from the Constitution. 

Groups of all ages, individuals, and genders are welcome to participate. Participants are encouraged to dress in white and bring homemade signs. In case of inclement weather, the rally will be held inside the museum.

Seating will be extremely limited. Please help us reserve seats for those in need.

Carrie Chapman Catt was president of NAWSA, the National American Woman Suffrage Association, in 1920 when the 19^th amendment became part of the U.S. constitution.  This living history performance includes three-parts: 1) an in-character, “back-in-time” monologue (30 minutes), 2) an in-character question and answer session (10-20 minutes), and 3) a question and answer session with the scholar, about creating the character and things that occurred after the character died (10-20 minutes). 

Dr. Deleasa Randall-Griffiths is a Professor in the Department of Communication Studies at Ashland University and Director of the Online Communication Studies Program. She teaches introduction to communication, interpersonal, intercultural, and health communication. Her research interests include healthcare narratives, historical performance, and storytelling. She received her B.A. from Indiana University and her M.S. and Ph.D. from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. She chairs the Ashland Chautauqua Planning Committee, which brings history to life through performance each summer. Deleasa began portraying Carrie Chapman Catt in 2015.
