Oklahoma Oil: Postcard Views of the Early Days (Grades 3-5) – Using Primary Sources
Students will learn about the historic oil boom by viewing and reading postcards from oil fields throughout Oklahoma. Students will learn how to determine where and when a postcard originated, discover where the early oil fields were located, and read messages from men and women who lived and worked in the area. Students will have the opportunity to write a brief narrative (in postcard format) with information they have learned. This lesson is available for classroom or in “mini” format combined with a museum tour.
Site-based presentations are available Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays and are subject to availability.
