Gilcrease Travels: The Trip That Inspired a Tulsa Treasure

Gilcrease Travels: The Trip That Inspired a Tulsa Treasure

through September 2nd

During the 1920s, Tulsa oil baron Thomas Gilcrease went on a trip throughout Europe, the Mediterranean, and the Middle East. His visits taught him the importance of preserving history to tell the stories of past societies. It was this study of other cultures and ancient relics that inspired him to begin collecting an archive of the Americas, both past and present, to preserve stories and artifacts for future explorers of history. His collection would eventually become the Gilcrease Museum. “Gilcrease Travels” includes photographs taken by Thomas Gilcrease during his life-changing travels abroad.
